English Book Club

MUKIVA hosts Book Clubs in English for lovers of literature, who have a very good level of English, but who want to practice by taking part in book and/or short story discussions, which are led by Dr. Ian Copestake, a native English-speaking academic who teaches at the Goethe University.

Thera are two types of English Book Club you can join:

A monthly novel class beginning on Sunday 4th June, from 11.30am to 1pm (and then on 9th July, 30th July and 3rd September) during which the first of four novels (listed below) will be discussed.

And a weekly short story class (for four weeks: 7pm to 8.30pm) beginning on Friday 9th June (and then on 16th June, 23rd June and 30th June). Once you sign up to this class a short-story for discussion will be sent to you via email.

Sunday, 9th July: The History of Luminous Motion, by Scott Bradfield (1989)

Sunday, 30th July: The Reluctant Fundamentalist by Mohsin Hamid (2007)

Sunday 3rd Sept: The Blue Flower, by Penelope Fitzgernad (1995)

All meetings are informal and friendly and aim to give you a chance to air your thoughts about the books and stories we read, while being led ty a knowledgeable literary scholar and teacher of English and American literature at the Goethe University.
